Co-design in Healthcare

Healthcare works best when the people who use services help shape them.

Co-design is a collaborative approach that brings together patients, clinicians, carers, researchers and other stakeholders throughout the design process. Rather than asking people to comment on finished ideas, co-design involves them from the earliest stages of understanding problems and generating solutions.

This creates richer insights and often reveals opportunities that would otherwise remain hidden. Patients bring lived experience. Clinicians understand the realities of delivering care. Service managers understand organisational constraints. Together, these perspectives lead to stronger, more practical innovation.

Co-design also builds trust and ownership. When people feel they have contributed to shaping a solution, they are more likely to support its implementation and champion future change.

At Root & Branch, co-design is central to our methodology. Through workshops, interviews, journey mapping and collaborative facilitation, we help organisations create products and services that reflect the needs of the people they are intended to support.
